A 21-year-old is in police custody after he shot his girlfriend because he believed that she had been cheating on him, Metro police said Monday.
The victim, an 18-year-old woman, was shot in the ankle in the 5600 block of Clarksville Pike in north Nashville Saturday.
Her boyfriend, James Walter, was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful weapon possession, driving on a revoked license and marijuana possession.
A rifle believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from his vehicle.
Walter's girlfriend was transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment. She is expected to recover.
Walter is in the Metro jail on a $75,000 bond.
