Preparations underway for 4th Annual Bash on Broadway

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Preparations are well underway for the fourth annual Music City New Year's Eve Bash on Broadway.

Grammy-nominated piano rock group The Fray will headline the event, which is free to the public and will take place on Lower Broadway between 1st and 5th avenues.

Nashville-based Sixpence None the Richer, ACM-nominated country duo Love and Theft and Nashville newcomers Striking Matches are also scheduled to perform.

Revelers attending the Bash on Broadway will count down to the New Year as a 15-foot-tall red music note drops slowly from a 115-foot structure.

The music note drop will trigger a fireworks display and confetti cannons as it reaches the Midnight mark.

New this year, families will have an opportunity to mark the holiday with the raising of the music note, fireworks and discounted non-alcoholic beverages during a family hour beginning at 6:45 p.m.

The family hour will also feature music from Internet sensations and stars of ABC's "Nashville" Lennon and Maisy Stella.

The hotel occupancy rate for New Year's Eve 2011 was 90.3%, up from 75.7% in 2010, a 19% increase.

According to city officials, the crowd attendance was 55,000 in 2011, more than double the 25,000 attendees in 2010.

The following will close at 6 a.m. Sunday:

  • 1st Avenue from Church to Demonbreun streets
  • 2nd Avenue from Commerce to Demonbreun streets
  • Broadway from 1st to 4th avenues

The following will close at 7 a.m. Monday:

  • 2nd Avenue from Demonbreun to Church streets
  • Commerce Street from 2nd to 3rd avenues
  • 3rd Avenue from Demonbreun to Commerce streets
  • 1st Avenue from Church to Union streets
  • Bank Street from 1st to 2nd avenues
  • Church Street from 1st to 2nd avenues
  • Gay Street connector from Church Street to 1st Avenue

The following will close at 12 p.m. Monday:

  • 4th Avenue from Demonbreun to Commerce streets
  • Broadway from 4th to 5th avenues

The following will close at 6 p.m. Monday:

  • 5th Avenue from Demonbreun to Commerce streets
  • 6th Avenue from Demonbreun Street to Broadway
  • 7th Avenue from Demonbreun to Commerce streets
  • Broadway from 5th to 8th avenues
