NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A homeowner is recovering Thursday morning after being pistol whipped by a group of men who broke into his Madison home overnight.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Maple Street, not too far from the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Gallatin Pike.

According to Metro police, a couple was inside their home when three men kicked in the rear door to the house. The suspects hit a male victim over the head with a gun before taking cash and prescription drugs from the home.

The victim was taken to Skyline Medical Center to be treated for a cut to his head.

The suspects fled the scene and are still on the run. No suspect description was immediately released.

Officials urge residents to keep doors and windows secured at all times.
