Macy's to stay open for 65 hours straight

Macy's will stay open 65 straight hours this weekend for Christmas shoppers who've waited almost to the last minute.

"We tested it last year in a few stores and it was very successful," said Shawn Dwyer, store manager of the Green Hills Macy's, adding, "Now all 800 stores are going to do it."

She continued, "We allow our associates to volunteer for what hours they want to work since we are open 65 hours straight. They volunteer with what shifts they want to work."

The last Saturday before Christmas is traditionally the second busiest shopping day of the year behind Black Friday.

Connie Crowell and her daughter Suzannah shopped ahead of the biggest crowd. Suzannah is home for the holiday.

She said, "I had to travel 36 hours to get here, so it's easier to shop in America than it is in Australia."

By waiting until this weekend, she's also finding some deals as stores begin cutting prices in order to clear Christmas merchandise to make way for the spring.

"This cashmere sweater was $120 now it's $40," her mom Connie said.

Local malls such as the Cool Springs Galleria and Rivergate Mall have extended their hours as well, closing at 10 p.m. each night through Sunday.

Most stores will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
