SMITH COUNTY, Tenn. -
Smith County schools will be closed for the remainder of the week due to illness.
According to Superintendent Roger Lewis, a high number of students have been ill with a stomach virus and flu like symptoms.
Officials are also investigating reports of contaminated water at three of the county's schools, Smith County High School, Defeated Elementary School and Carthage Elementary School.
Students are set to return to the classroom on Monday, January 7.
