Mother Kelley Kimsey says the toy drive helps honor her late daughter who died five days after birth.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The family of a former Vanderbilt Children's Hospital patient donated more than 1,000 toys to the hospital in honor of their daughter.
Lillie Kay Kimsey passed away just five days after she was born in 2009.
After her loss, Kimsey's parents began collecting toys for an annual toy drive.
"Her first birthday came around and we didn't know what to do, but we wanted to keep her memory alive so we decided to have a toy drive in her memory. We just had a very small group of friends and family come celebrate her birthday and bring and unwrapped toy for her birthday," mother Kelley Kimsey explained.
The family plans to continue collecting toys each year for the hospital in Kimsey's memory.
Kimsey would have turned three on December 14.
