Shop with a Cop program treats dozens of kids to Christmas

Posted:
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

This year's Shop with a Cop program was able to help 50 more children than last year thanks to an outpouring of support from the community. Each child got $50 more to spend than last year, too.

List in hand, kids like Chelsie Woodard roamed the aisles checking it twice for things like pants, shirts, socks and boots.

With officers from Franklin, Brentwood and Fairview by their side and the store as their limit, most families chose to rack up on necessities.

Some even opted to buy for their family instead of themselves. There's little doubt this Christmas will be a little brighter for these children all handpicked by the community or officers in the field.

The Shop with a Cop program not only provides a little something extra for under the tree, but it's a one on one experience, proving Williamson County officers go above the call of duty.

Woodard admits that her Christmas would not be the same without the program.

"I probably wouldn't have a Christmas... I probably wouldn't get what I had today," she said.

It's a win for the children and a labor of love for the volunteers, providing the kind of cheer that comes with holiday giving.
