Three people were killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision late Tuesday afternoon in Bedford County.
The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. on State Highway 82 near Simmons Road, south of Shelbyville.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Eric Holestak was traveling north on State Highway 82 when his Ford Taurus crossed the center line and struck a southbound Honda Accord head-on.
Holestak, 46, of Murfreesboro, and the driver of the Honda, Morris Parker, 71, of La Vergne, died on the scene.
Parker's passenger, Mary Motlow, 62, of Lynchburg, was transported to a Nashville hospital where she died Tuesday night.
A Tennessee state trooper told the Shelbyville Times Gazette it appears Holestak may have fallen asleep.
Trooper Dallas Rife said alcohol was involved.
"He had an open container in the vehicle and he smelled of alcohol," Rife told the paper.
Highway 82 was closed for approximately two and a half hours while crews worked the scene.
