NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A Metro officer that was decommissioned in October due to assault charges resigned from the department on Friday.
Authorities said Andre Johnson submitted his resignation in a one sentence letter which stated he "will be retiring from all active duty."
Johnson was relieved of all law enforcement authority on October 10 after he was arrested on a domestic assault warrant charging that he struck his wife during an argument in February.
The 46-year-old was booked on October 20 on a second domestic assault warrant charging him with punching and kicking his wife during an argument on April 25.
Johnson's resignation is effective immediately.
