MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A 28-year-old Murfreesboro man is behind bars following his arrest last week for allegedly abusing his three-year-old child.

Joseph Price was arrested last Thursday on one count each of aggravated child abuse and child abuse.

Officers began investigating Price last month following a tip from the Department of Children's Services.

According to the arrest report, his daughter had several injuries to her legs, back, rear-end and head.

During an interview, Price admitted to using a paddle on her bare butt and stated that he "went too far."

The investigation further showed Price would make the toddler stand in a corner for up to 15 hours and put a sock in her mouth.

The little girl has been removed from Price's home and was placed with other family members by the Department of Children's Services.

Neighbors of Price where shocked to hear about the charges.

One woman who only identify herself as Brittany is expecting her first child in the spring.

"I don't think anyone should do that to their kids," she said. "If you love your kid you need to love your kid."

Another woman named Jessica is a mother of two young children.

"They need to be in jail they really do and not be let out," she said. "For someone to do this to their kids that is just wrong."

Price is free on $15,000 bond from the Rutherford County Detention Center. He did not return calls from Nashville's News 2 for comment.

A woman listed as his next of kin on the arrest report answered a call from Nashville's News 2, but also declined to comment.

A Rutherford County Grand Jury indicted Price this month on the abuse charges. If convicted he faces up to 60 years in prison on the aggravated child abuse charge.

He is due in court December 17 at 9 am.
