Schools in Perry, Humphreys counties close due to illness

LINDEN, Tenn. -

More Tennessee school districts are closing due to widespread illness.

Eric Lomax, director of schools in Perry County, said schools saw an 18% absentee rate on Friday.

As a result, schools are closed Monday and will again be closed on Tuesday.

Lomax said crews have disinfected the schools and classes will resume as scheduled on Wednesday.

The senior financial aid night at 5 p.m. Tuesday will continue as scheduled, he said.

In neighboring Humphreys County, schools will be closed from Wednesday, December 12 through Friday, December 14 due to the flu and a virus, Schools Director James Long said.

Classes are scheduled to resume on Monday.

Overton, Clay and Stewart county schools have also cancelled classes in recent weeks due to sickness among students and staff.
