NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Middle Tennessee designers received praise in the December issue of Garden and Gun Magazine.

The publication featured three local craftsmen for their annual Made in the South Awards.

For the third year in a row, a Nashville designer won the Style and Design category.

This year, Luke Stockdale, the owner of Sideshow Sign Co., was recognized for his handmade marquee signs inspired by vintage typography.

"For [Garden and Gun judges] to actually see my work, put their hands on it, and still give me an award afterwards was validating," Stockdale said.

Stockdale started his businesses in a workshop behind his sister-in-law's house nine months ago.

He has already been commissioned by companies like Nike and New York & Company.

One of his signs will be featured in an advertisement in Vogue Magazine in 2013.

Fire Pit Art in Lebanon was a runner-up for the overall winner and Nelson's Green Brier Distillery, a century old whisky brand revived and set to distribute in 2013, was a runner up in the food category.

Stockdale believes something special is happening in the creative community in Nashville.

"We just feed off each other. It's really bubbling at the moment," he said.
