Motorcyclist dies after colliding with semi-truck in south Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A motorcyclist critically injured after colliding with a semi-truck just south of downtown Nashville late Sunday night has died.

The accident happened shortly before Midnight at the intersection of Fourth Avenue South and Lafayette Street.

Witnesses reported the motorcyclist, Robert Wood, 33, of Nashville, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and crashed into the side of the truck, which had just exited I-40 East.

Wood was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died around 2 p.m. Monday.

Metro police said the driver of the truck, Darrell Greer, 58, of Brentwood, was not injured.

A Metro officer saw Wood speeding and run the red light at 4th Avenue South and Demonbreun Street. The officer activated his emergency equipment but Wood kept going. The officer did not witness the crash, but drove up on it.

The intersection was shutdown for several hours while crews cleared the scene.
