NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man is dead following a fiery crash in Old Hickory early Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. on Saundersville Road at General Kershaw Drive not far from the Hermitage Church of the Nazarene.

Officials told Nashville's News 2 a black Chevrolet Z71 pickup truck hit a tree and burst into flames. The driver, later identified as Taylor Garretson, 18, of Shelbyville was unable to escape and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The truck was registered in Shelbyville.

Passersby who witnessed the crash said it appeared the driver missed a turn and ran off the road.

One homeowner told Nashville's News 2 he called 911 after hearing an explosion.

Officials said the fatal crash is the third fatality at the curve this year.

It wasn't immediately clear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, but a medical examiner planned to investigate.

Saundersville Road was shutdown for several hours.  It has since reopened.
