Maximilian Ocon, 57, pleaded guilty Wednesday to second degree murder.
LA VERGNE, Tenn. -
A La Vergne man who beat his girlfriend with a hammer before strangling her to death two years ago pleaded guilty in the crime Wednesday morning.
According to the Daily News Journal, Maximilian Ocon, 57, pleaded guilty to second degree murder for the November 2010 killing of 48-year-old Rafela Ortiz at her Lake Forest Estates home and was sentenced to 25 years.
Ocon, originally from El Salvador, was arrested a few days after the murder in Texas.
Police said when they found Ocon he was planning to flee the country.
During a hearing last year, Ocon claimed that he had acted in self-defense and had a fuzzy memory about what happened on the day he killed Ortiz, the paper reported.
He claimed he blacked out and later woke up and found his girlfriend dead.
