Nashville composer encourages students to follow dreams

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Nashville composer recently spent time speaking with students at an area elementary school.

The focus of Todd Billingsley's talk to fourth grade students last Tuesday at Napier Elementary School focused primarily on following their dreams.

Billingsley told students despite growing up in Music City, that didn't guarantee him exposure to the music industry.

"The biggest message is life is like an ocean wave. You have ups and downs and sometimes the downs are severe and you don't know which way to go," he told students.

Billingsley, who has written music for movies and television, also shared with students a struggle his wife, Missy faced – losing her leg to cancer.

Billingsley added despite the setback, his wife continues to do everything she wants to including running with the use of a prosthetic leg.

The Billingsley's have a new book titled "Run to Win" coming out in January about Missy's battle with cancer.
