KNOXVILLE (WATE) - For the first time, the volunteers of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" were able view the fruits of their labor from Knoxville's January build.
Friends, family and hundreds of volunteers attended a special viewing party Monday night at the Tennessee Theatre.
Many of the volunteers, who spent countless hours at the build site, said they were excited to see the final results.
"I've been watching the show on TV for so long," said volunteer Myles Walker. "So I said to myself, ‘Wow they're coming to Knoxville, Tennessee. Maybe I can be a part of this, and it will be an extreme experience to help out in any way.'"
Volunteers worked non-stop for a week. Nine month's later, they saw the final results.
"It doesn't seem that long ago because it's so close to my heart," volunteer Gary Goocy said.
Many, like Goocy, were excited to, not only see the finished inside of the house, but share the experience with the Watsons, a family they've come to love.
"You see all the little pieces coming together, and at the end you see the finished product," Goocy said. "It makes you feel good about it all."
Everyone agreed the Watsons were well-deserving of the night's accolades.
"They're such beautiful people," volunteer Vivian Slaughter said. "They deserve it."
