Williamson County to consider raises for school nurses

Posted:
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

In an effort to keep qualified nurses in schools, the Williamson County School Board will consider increasing the starting salary for school nurses.

According to a report in the Williamson Herald, administrators told the board earlier this month, the district has lost six nurses recently, half of them for pay reasons.

Administrators say the current salary level also makes it hard for them to recruit new nurses.

Williamson County Schools pays entry level nurses just $21,000 a year, well below the average nursing salary of $61,000 in the Franklin area.

Administrators have also recommended raising the starting salary for payroll specialists and some sports and cheer coaches.

The Williamson County School Board meets Monday night at 6:30 p.m. at the county administrative complex.
