Traditional Black Friday shoppers were out in full force this year, but the Black Friday sales are outgrowing the day.
Brick and mortar retailers opened their doors Thanksgiving Day, earlier than ever before. Many retailers saw a record number of shoppers throughout the holiday weekend.
Holiday shopping deals also expand to the Internet. According to a report from Reuters, for the first time ever, online sales for Black Friday topped $1 billion.
Black Friday deals are followed by more savings on Cyber Monday. Millions of consumers are expected to take advantage of online deals throughout the whole week, turning Cyber Monday into Cyber Week.
Traditionally, the biggest online shopping day of the year is the Monday after Thanksgiving, but that is changing.
"Thanksgiving is actually our biggest day online of the year," said Best Buy Online Sales President Scott Durchslag. "Cyber Monday follows. For us, we're actually doing our cyber Monday deals Sunday. So it's both days. Then we follow it up through the weeks."
