Special group gives 24-hour support to babies

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A special group of nurses is assisting Middle Tennessee families and newborns around the clock.

According to The Tennessean, Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee make home visits and follow the growth of at-risk babies to the age of 2.

Executive director Vicki Beaver says the nurses develop relationships with the family and the baby, know their history and are ready to take a phone call when the mothers need help. Support is available 24 hours a day.

The Middle Tennessee group serves families in Davidson, Maury, Montgomery, Rutherford, Sumner and Williamson counties. The nurses served 800 families last year and made 4,399 home visits.
