Shoppers take advantage of stores open on Thanksgiving Day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Many shoppers got an early start to Black Friday shopping by hitting the stores on Thanksgiving Day.

Kmart opened at 6 a.m. Thursday offering special door buster deals.

Shopper Janet Thompson told Nashville's News 2 she was in line by 4:30 a.m.

"It was cold," Thompson said, adding that she missed out on the door buster television she was hoping to buy.

"They only had six [TV's in stock], but I got some things."

Abdi Suleiman said he camped out on the store's sidewalk overnight to get a $65 RCA surround sound system.

By 7 a.m., he was preparing his spot on the sidewalk and waiting for Kmart's 8 p.m. door buster sale so he could get a 50 inch television for $288.

He told Nashville's News 2, getting a great deal makes Black Friday shopping all worth it.

"Even though it is boring sometimes you just know that you have got to keep pushing and you are going to get there eventually. After all that waiting it will be worth it," he said.

Bass Pro Shops also opened at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning as part of a five day sale.

"We are expecting a huge weekend. It started actually yesterday with enormous sales. We haven't started the sales on Wednesday before and it was huge for us" explained Bass Pro Store Manager Greg Cole.

Paul Hale told Nashville's News 2 he has made a Thanksgiving Day tradition of driving from Cumberland Furnace to Bass Pro with his family.

"Get out early in the morning, traffic is less and just get out and come to Bass Pro Thanksgiving morning," he said, adding, "We get a few deals so we can stay home tomorrow when everyone else is out crazy."

Many area retailers are expected to open for extended hours on Friday.
