LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A former Lexington police officer has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and assault in a case in which a woman walking along a trail was struck by the man's vehicle.
The Lexington Herald-Leader says court records show 43-year-old Keith Todd pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree assault, DUI, wanton endangerment, tampering with evidence and attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud. T
he controlled substance was zolpidem, a prescription medication used to treat insomnia.
Police said Todd was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he mistakenly got onto the trail and drove at least one-third of a mile. Penny Bentley - struck while she was walking on the path for bicyclists, walkers and joggers - suffered a broken leg and other injuries.
Sentencing is Jan. 11.
