BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. -
A Holladay, Tennessee man was killed in an accident involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 40 in Benton County early Wednesday morning.
The incident was reported just after 1 a.m. on I-40 West at mile marker 130.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver of a Saturn sedan was killed when he pulled out from the shoulder into the path of the 18-wheeler.
The driver of the big rig was unable to avoid colliding with the Saturn.
Jerry Bell, 60, was not wearing a seat belt and died on the scene. Bell's passenger, Sharon Bell, was injured.
The 34-year-old driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
The interstate was shutdown for about an hour and a half while crews cleared the scene.
The roadway has since reopened.
