With Thanksgiving just over a week away, students at a Franklin pre-school had a unique opportunity to learn about turkeys on Tuesday. For more than 20 years Laura Turner has been raising turkeys as pets. Each year the Mid-State resident takes her gang of turkeys to area pre-schools to allow students to get up close and personal with the official bird of Turkey Day. At First United Methodist pre-school, the halls erupted in gobbles and giggles as the birds were brought inside. While at the school, Turner allowed the students to pet and ask questions about the animals. "They have a fascinating back story," she told students. "They're part of our country's history, have all sorts of interesting things that dates back 10 million years to the dinosaur era." Turner also spent time at Berry's Chapel pre-school in Franklin on Tuesday. She is set to bring the turkeys to Christ Kids in Nashville on Thursday.
