Doctors offices already see end of year rush

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Waiting rooms and schedule books are filling up with surgeries and doctor's appointments before the end of the year.

The main reason is that many people have already met their deductibles which will start all over come January 1.

Other patients are trying to spend money from a flex account that may disappear at the beginning of the year.

Dr. Mark Lickey with TriStar Medical Group's Sterling Primary Care is already beginning to see the winter rush.

"Every year we start to get that earlier in the year. As soon as people see Christmas decorations going up, they start thinking about some other things that need to get done before the end of the year," said Dr. Lickey.

Aside from money, doctors say the increase has a lot to do with patients being off work during the holidays and wanting to schedule an appointment without having to burn a vacation day.

"If you need to see your physician during that time it's probably a good idea to start thinking about that and making that phone call now," said Dr. Lickey.

Doctors say if you need an appointment before the end of the year, now is the time to make it before they fill up.
