Armed suspect caught following Target pharmacy holdup

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police arrested an armed suspect following a robbery midday Monday of the Target pharmacy in Rivergate.

The holdup happened shortly before Noon at the store located at 2050 North Gallatin Pike.

Police spokesperson Kristin Mumford said the suspect, Richard Pottinger, 41, was armed with a silver revolver when he demanded prescription painkillers at the pharmacy counter.

An officer in the area went to a possible escape route and pulled over the suspect's vehicle.

Pottinger's wife was behind the wheel but claimed to have no knowledge of the robbery.  She was not immediately charged.

Police said Pottinger was wearing khaki pants and a red shirt, what Target employees wear, but he claims his clothing to be a coincidence.

Pottinger, of Hendersonville, was most recently arrested in July for driving on a revoked license.  He has previous convictions for theft and drug possession, police said.

He will be charged with aggravated robbery for Monday's holdup.
