NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man was taken into custody after he attacked his ex-wife with a box cutter at a local salon.

According to a Metro police affidavit, the victim was sitting at the Oasis Salon on Thompson Lane on November 4 when 51-year-old Magdy Fahem walked in and began threatening her.

She tried to run, but he grabbed her and held a box cutter to her throat, the affidavit stated.

"He said I want to kill you," Oasis Salon employee Batol Mohammed told Nashville's News 2 Investigates.

The victim grabbed at the box cutter, cutting her arms and hands. She then reported Fahem tried to strangle her.

She was able to eventually break free.

When others in the salon tried to help, Fahem ran away, saying anyone who followed him would be killed, according to the affidavit.

Batol told Nashville's News 2 the couple's 10-year-old daughter was at the salon at the time of the incident.

"She tried to help her mom," Batol said. "She said, ‘Move, Daddy! Daddy, move! You almost killed her! You almost killed her!'"

The victim is expected to recover.

Fahem turned himself into police the day after the attack. He is charged with aggravated assault.

Police said Fahem does not have a prior criminal history.

He remains jailed on a $50,000 bond.

The couple is said to have been divorced for nearly two years.
