'Taste of Nashville' raises money for Middle Tennessee charity

If you need a good excuse to sample some great local food and drinks, look no further than "Taste of Nashville," Friday night at the Cannery Ballroom.

"This is one of the premier events for Phoenix Club," said Steven Elliott, the group's president. "This is actually one of the best food and drink events in Nashville. We'll have about 35 restaurants, local distilleries and brewers, and we'll have three bands playing on stage."

The Phoenix Club was founded in Tennessee in 1955, while the Nashville version has been around for about a decade.

They have raised around $100,000 dollars each year for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee.

"One of the best things about us, I would say, is that we're 100% volunteer," explained Elliott. "And yet we have guys who go out every day who are raising funds and not only raising funds, but then taking that and giving it to the organizations in town who need it most."

Elliott added, "I feel good knowing that not only are we raising funds for a good cause, but we're also following that dollar as we give it to make sure that it continues to do exactly what we think is best for our community."

Elliott told Nashville's News 2 he expects around 700 people to attend "Taste of Nashville," and raise about $40,000 for BGCMT.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and lasts until 1 a.m. at the Cannery Ballroom.
