NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Republican U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais has posted a strong lead in his bid for re-election despite revelations he once had an affair with a patient and urged her to get an abortion.

With 32% of precincts reporting, the Jasper physician had 52,501 votes, or 60%, compared with Democrat Eric Stewart's 35,104, or 40%.

DesJarlais was the only 1 of the nine-member Tennessee delegation in Congress to face a serious challenge.

Republican Reps. Diane Black, Marsha Blackburn, John J. "Jimmy" Duncan Jr., Stephen Fincher, Chuck Fleischmann, and Phil Roe won, as did Democratic Rep. Jim Cooper.

No results were yet available in the 9th District race.
