An alleged shoplifter was arrested over the weekend after police said she stabbed an employee who tried to stop her several times with a screwdriver.
According to a police affidavit, several employees observed Denise Colon stash items under her clothing as she shopped at the Walmart store on Nolensville Pike at Harding Place Saturday afternoon. When they confronted her, police said Colon, 27, pulled out what appeared to be a screwdriver and stabbed one the employees several times.
Police said Colon then tried to leave the store in her vehicle and in the process, backed into another vehicle in the parking lot.
Both incidents were captured on store surveillance and witnesses positively identified Colon as the suspect.
She was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated assault, leaving scene of accident and shoplifting.
The Walmart employee was stabbed several times in the upper body and transported to an area hospital. He is expected to recover.
Colon was arrested last year on similar charges.
On September 16, 2011, police said Colon attempted to leave the Target store on Charlotte Pike with a shopping cart full of merchandise she hadn't paid for.
She struck the agent who tried to stop her before fleeing the store, leaving behind a small child who was carried off by an unidentified female associate.
Colon was charged with theft, attempted theft and assault but never convicted.
