A man behind bars in connection to the murder of a 24-year-old nursing student has now been formerly charged with the crime.
A Franklin County grand jury on Monday returned a multi-count indictment against Donnie Jones Jr.
He was indicted on charges of first degree murder, felony first degree murder and two counts each of especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape.
Authorities in Coffee County arrested Jones, 37, last month on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon.
In early July, Megan Sharpton's burned body was found along a roadway in Franklin County.
Jones was transferred Monday from the Coffee County jail to the jail in Franklin County.
He will be arraigned on the charges at a later date.
Jones' arrest history reflects 21 felony convictions for a variety of offenses including jail escape, burglary, forgery and attempted rape.
