Convicted felon arrested for selling drugs with baby in car

A convicted felon was arrested for selling drugs near an elementary school with a baby in the vehicle.

Detectives had been tracking 45-year-old Stephen Richey for several days before catching him selling cocaine with a baby girl in the backseat.

Richey was arrested Thursday near Amqui Elementary School in Madison.

Police said he had 31 grams of cocaine and a scale in his pocket. When detectives searched his house they said they found a Pioneer Arms rifle and an Ultra Star handgun.

According to an arrant warrant, Richey sold 27.5 grams of crack cocaine to an undercover agent on Wednesday, while Richey had a baby girl in a car seat inside his van.

Richey faces five charges including child endangerment and possessing drugs within 1,000 feet of a school zone.

Richey was convicted of a felon after robbing a bank in 1994.
