Larry Taylor was arrested in June on bigamy charges. He is now charged with statutory rape by an authority figure.
Amanda Taylor is also charged with statutory rape by an authority figure.
PORTLAND, Tenn. -
A Sumner County man charged with bigamy in June was arrested last month on charges he raped a teen girl.
According to Portland police, the victim is a friend of the family's and was living with Larry Taylor and his wife, Amanda, when the alleged sexual assaults took place.
Police said in court documents that Larry Taylor admitted to the relationship during questioning.
He also implicated his wife. Amanda Taylor has denied the allegations. She told Nashville's News 2 by phone that she did not know about her husband's relationship with the girl until his and her arrest.
She said she separated from her husband two months ago.
She is charged with three counts of statutory rape by an authority figure.
Larry Taylor is charged with statutory rape by an authority figure and exploitation of a minor for pictures of the teen girl allegedly found on his cell phone.
According to police, the sex acts happened in March of 2012 inside the Taylor's Portland home. The girl has since moved out.
The allegations surfaced after police responded to a custody dispute in September where a 10-year-old girl was physically assaulted.
Amy Perez was babysitting one of the Taylor's children when she said Larry Taylor arrived at the home to pick up the child.
According court records, Amanda Taylor and Larry Taylor are separated and Amanda had asked Perez not to release the child to Larry.
"He said, ‘Come on, come to daddy,'" Perez told Nashville's News 2. "I said, ‘No he is not going anywhere with you.'"
Perez said Taylor barged in through her front door, knocking her daughter into a wall. The 10-year-old was still so scared she did not want to recount the incident to News 2.
"He came over and slung the door and slammed her against the wall. I told him you better leave because I am calling the law and he said no," Perez continued.
Police charged Taylor with aggravated burglary and assault in connection with the incident.
While Portland police were investigating the incident, someone gave police a tip that Larry Taylor had inappropriate pictures of a teen girl on his cell phone.
Both Larry and Amanda Taylor were booked into the Sumner County jail.
Amanda Taylor posted a $20,000 bond and was released on October 24. She said told Nashville's News 2 she is due in Sumner County Court on November 16th.
Larry Taylor remains behind bars on a $70,000 bond.
The Taylors have already made initial appearances and their cases have been bound over to a Sumner County grand jury.
In June, police arrested Larry Taylor after Amanda, his latest and fourth wife, discovered he was still married to a previous wife and told authorities.
At the time, Taylor told Nashville's News 2 the court records were wrong and the whole thing was just a "misunderstanding."
Taylor is set for a settlement hearing on the bigamy charges November 8. At the hearing a judge will either set a trial date for Taylor or he will be allowed to take a plea agreement if prosecutors offer him one in lieu of a trial.
