Experts predict a spike in gas prices as Hurricane Sandy makes landfall.
It is estimated that 6.5% of the gasoline Americans use is produced on the East Coast and many refineries have evacuated and stopped production.
Gas prices have been declining every day since October 8.
Monday morning, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.34 in Nashville and $3.55 nationwide.
Currently, NashvilleGasPrices.com and many experts are expecting a spike as the storm moves forward.
Forecasters say the massive storm system could blow ashore Monday across a wide swathe of the eastern seaboard, bringing with it the potential for massive flooding and widespread power outages.
Air, land and rail transportation has been halted and hundreds of thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate.
While more than half a dozen refineries could be in the path of the storm, the U.S. is well-supplied with oil while demand for gasoline is down as large numbers of Americans remain unemployed and don't drive to work.
