An 18-year-old high school student was charged on Friday after police discovered a .38-caliber revolver in his backpack. A parent of another student reported to Whites Creek High's school resource officer that Shaquawn Odom could be armed. The gun, which was loaded with two rounds, was found during a search of Odom's backpack by the school's SRO and principal. Odom told police a friend had left the weapon at his home on Thursday night and that he planned to return it to the unnamed friend after school on Friday. Odom was booked into the Metro jail on a felony charge of carrying a firearm on school property. He is being held in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
