NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A Nashville judge sentenced a man to 12 years in prison Thursday after he ran over his ex-girlfriend in the Dell Computers parking lot last year.
Police previously said Jordan Looper ran over Whitney Wiser and dragged her behind his SUV after she broke up with him.
Looper has since pled guilty to attempted second degree murder.
"I know I am responsible, but I did not have intent to do harm. It is my fault," he said, adding, "I am sorry for what Whitney had to go through. I know I am responsible. I wish I had made better decisions. I am sorry to Whitney and I am sorry to my family."
While on the stand, Looper was emotional and said prior to the incident, he had been drinking and taking Xanax in an attempt to cope with his brother suffering from Stage IV cancer.
"I knew our relationship was over," he said. "I was drinking everyday because I was upset about my brother."
He continued, I know it was my fault. I didn't have any intention to go and kill anybody. I took a lot of Xanax that day."
Last month, the former swimsuit model filed a $2.5 million lawsuit against Looper.
In the lawsuit, Wiser claims she suffered spinal injuries and permanent disfigurement as a result of the assault.
"I still have scars from all the road burn," Wiser said on Thursday. "I couldn't walk on my own. My parents took care of me."
Wiser worked at Dell Computers when the incident occurred.
