CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. -

A tractor trailer carrying frozen chicken parts overturned on Interstate 24 in Cheatham County, shutting down the westbound lanes for several hours Thursday.

The accident happened around 6 a.m. near New Hope Road and exit 31 and involved the overturned tractor trailer and three other vehicles.

Authorities said the big rig driver went around the curve near New Hope Road, hit a guard rail and rolled over.

The driver of the truck was flown via LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

An update on his condition wasn't immediately known.

Drivers were diverted onto Highway 41A to Highway 49 before getting back on the interstate in Pleasant View.

Traffic was backed up for more than two miles.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation hoped to have the interstate partially opened by 10:30 a.m.  It was 3 p.m. before the scene was cleared and all westbound lanes reopened.
