A candlelight prayer vigil was held Wednesday evening for a homeless man shot and killed last week. Police said Robert Mitchell, 41, was seated on a bench near the intersection of 3rd Avenue North and James Robertson Parkway in downtown Nashville when he was shot and killed last Thursday morning.Attendees Anita Crawley and Robin Thompson held each others hands for strength as they told Nashville's News 2 about their cousin."He was a beautiful person, a beautiful heart, a good person, he just had some bad things happen, was on some bad luck and trying to work on some personal issues," said Crawley.Unbeknownst to the family, Mitchell was living on the streets at the time of his death."We are angry because his life was snatched from him," said Crawley. "We want people to know that this was a loving man with a great heart."Several dozen people turned out to the corner where Mitchell last slept to pray and reflect on the senseless act of violence that took his life.Christopher Crowley is charged with criminal homicide for the crime. The 29-year-old is suspected in two other, similar attacks on homeless people in downtown Nashville.
