New road could boost tourism in Williamson County

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

A new road improvement project could boost tourism next year to Williamson County's historic areas.

Franklin aldermen will vote Tuesday night on a contract for a new access road from the Eastern Flank Battlefield property by Carnton Plantation to Lewisburg Pike.

The road would allow the estimated 40,000 annual visitors to bypass residential Carnton Lane.

The half-million dollar project will also include visitor center, parking, landscaping and new signs.

Construction could be finished by June.
