FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

The Franklin High School marching band beat 24 other high school bands to claim first place in the Band of America regional competition last weekend in Jacksonville, Alabama.

The Franklin High School marching band has spent many hours after school and even sacrificed many of their Saturdays to practice.

"I have never worked with kids that act the way these kids do," said band director David Aydelott.

He added, "It was a huge moment for our band program.  It is sort of the culmination of a lot of work and effort that has been going on the last four years."

The students told Nashville's News 2 they don't mind putting in the hard work because they like how it feels during a competition.

"It is the best, especially this last one, that feeling, there is nothing like that," said band member Erin Gleeson.

"It is such a great experience, especially on Saturday, when they first announce our name. It just makes it all worth it," band member Coley Spencer added.

This year's show is called "Incantation." The band says it is a little like Cirque du Soleil meets marching band.

"That was the big goal we had this year.  We wanted to make it all seems seamless and tell the story throughout everything, not just each song," said Michael Holland, the band's assistant director.

"That is something I have never done. I have never been like an actor but it gives me like an opportunity," Gleeson added.

The band members are working hard but still having a great time with a couple competitions left to go.

"We want to go as far as we can," said Hannah Cavender. "We don't know how far we will get but we want to our best performance and what ever happens, happens. As long as we do are best that will be good enough."

The Franklin High School band will compete in the contest of champions on Saturday at MTSU.

They will also have special performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at the Franklin High School football stadium.
