NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

An east Nashville home was destroyed by a fire early Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported around 6:30 a.m. on Airpark Drive near Shelby Bottoms Park.

A Metro school bus driver called 911 and reported the fire.

Fire crews said they could see smoke and flames from down the road as they approached the home.

Firefighters had difficulty entering because of security doors. Once they were able to enter, they discovered that the basement was fully engulfed and the fire was quickly spreading upstairs.

Due to the extent of the fire, officials decided to exit the home and fight the flames from outside.

The fire quickly spread upstairs and caused a majority of the roof to collapse.

According to officials, the owner of the home owns a second home on the same road and was staying in the second home at the time of the blaze.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

Crews had the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

Investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Traffic in the area was not impacted.
