CROSSVILLE, Tenn. -

A Cumberland County deputy was injured and another person killed during a confrontation Sunday.

The shooting happened on Mailand Road, northwest of Crossville, shortly before 7 p.m.

According to WATE-TV in Knoxville, Deputy Jonathan Human was responding to a trespassing call on Spooner Drive. The suspect, David Fish, 41, had entered the property and when the deputy approached him, Fish attacked the deputy.

Human then shot and killed Fish.

"The altercation took place as the officer was attempting to arrest Fish and Fish suffered fatal wounds," explained Investigator Casey Cox, with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Human was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. He is on paid administrative leave pending the results of an investigation by the TBI, which is standard procedure.

Neighbors say Fish's ex-fiance lived in the house.

Fish's criminal history shows a restraining order taken out against him. He also has multiple domestic assault charges, among other crimes.
