Montgomery County sheriff dies after illness

Sheriff Norman Lewis Jr.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

Montgomery County Sheriff Norman Lewis Jr. passed away late Sunday afternoon after battling a long illness.

Family members said Lewis died just after 3:30 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Chief Deputy John Smith will assume duties until a new sheriff is appointed.

No additional information was immediately released.
