NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Tennessee congressman said on Friday he was "unknowingly recorded" while his challenger calls the recording an "embarrassment" to the state.

Those comments are from the 4th District Congressional race between incumbent Republican Scott DesJarlais and Democratic candidate Eric Stewart.

They stem from allegations made this earlier week in the Huffington Post where the online publication describes a telephone recording made more than a decade ago.

In it, the pro-life Republican is heard telling a woman described as his mistress that he's concerned she has not had an abortion.

Today, DesJarlais told Nashville's News 2 in a statement "there was no pregnancy, no abortion" and that he was "unknowingly recorded."

At a Capitol Hill news conference Friday afternoon, his Democratic challenger Eric Stewart said,"[DesJarlais] has missed the point. The point is that you have the audacity to lie to the voters, to make Tennessee a national embarrassment."

On Friday night there's word the congressman's endorsement of Mitt Romney has disappeared from the presidential candidate's Web site.

In response, DesJarlais told Nashville's News 2 in a statement "I have not had a chance to speak with him or his staff."
