Predators' staff prepares lunch for families at Ronald McDonald House

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Members of the Nashville Predators' staff spent Thursday morning preparing lunch for families at the Ronald McDonald House.

"It is so important for us to have meals brought in by our community," said Liz Piercy, Executive Director of the Nashville Ronald McDonald House.

She continued, "Our families really enjoy having a home cooked meal to come home to at night when they have had a long day at the hospital. It is really important for our families to rejuvenate and rest and then go back to the hospital the following day and take care of their sick child."

Volunteers cook or provide dinner every night at the Ronald McDonald House and occasionally, like Thursday, also provide lunch or breakfast.

In years past, this has been the week the Nashville Predators training camp wrapped up and players spent time giving back to the community.

Due to the NHL lockout, players are not doing any organized team events and the Predators staff stepped up to fill the void led by Coach Barry Trotz.

"We got a mandate that everyone is going to get out and do something. I will tell you what, it makes the days go faster, gives you a good feeling and we are doing something productive for people who are not as fortunate as we are."

Coach Trotz said he is thankful for the support of the Predators to allow staff to volunteer during the lockout.

"We are going to do something good instead of just wasting our time staring at the walls waiting for a result, we are going to go out and hopefully in a small way be able to contribute to a great city that supports us," he said.

The Ronald McDonald House has volunteer cooks through the end of the year, but is always looking for a way to fill open spots.
