Convicted felon charged with drug, gun offenses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A convicted drug felon who was wanted for questioning in a murder of a 30-year-old man last month was taken into police custody on Thursday morning.

Police located 30-year-old Montrez Duncan hiding in some bushes on N. Hill Street near First Avenue South following a brief car and foot pursuit.

Upon finding Duncan, police found a bag that contained powder and rock cocaine, in addition to nearly $4,800 in cash.

Officers located additional cocaine and a pistol inside Duncan's nearby abandoned vehicle.

Prior to his arrest, Duncan was wanted for questioning in the shooting death of Eric Swanson.
 
Swanson was as walking in the area of Lewis and Lafayette streets in the J.C. Napier public housing development when he was shot on September 23.

Police reported that Duncan refused to be interviewed by police regarding Swanson's murder.

Duncan is charged with unlawful firearm possession, possession of cocaine for resale in a drug free school zone, and two counts of evading arrest, among others.

He is being held in the Metro jail without bond.

Duncan received a six year probated sentence in 2011 for a felony drug conviction.
