The city of Nashville will officially kickoff the holiday season on Friday, December 7 with the 60th Annual Piedmont Natural Gas Nashville Christmas Parade.
This year's night of festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the lighting of the city's Christmas tree in Public Square Plaza in Downtown Nashville. Mayor Karl Dean will be joined by executives from Piedmont Natural Gas for the ceremony, which will be immediately followed with fireworks. The parade begins at 7 p.m. on Woodland Street Bridge at Public Square and travels down 2nd Avenue and up Broadway to 9th Avenue.
"The Piedmont Natural Gas Nashville Christmas Parade is one of Nashville's great holiday traditions," said Nashville Mayor Karl Dean. "Not only does it help jumpstart the holiday season in Music City, but it draws thousands of people to our great downtown area and helps them enjoy all this wonderful city has to offer."
The theme of this year's parade is "A Christmas Salute," and it pays tribute to, not just the military, but everyone who serves their friends and neighbors for the greater good of our community.
"It's very appropriate that we salute our nation's heroes who fight for freedom across the globe and defend us here at home," said Stephen Francescon, Community Relations Manager, Tennessee, Piedmont Natural Gas. "But we also want to salute our police officers, firefighters and any public servant who sacrifices their time, resources and sometimes their lives to make our community the great place it is."
All proceeds from the parade will benefit Piedmont's Share the Warmth program, which assists local low-income families who need help paying energy bills at any point during the year, regardless of their energy source. Since 2003, Piedmont Natural Gas and its customers, along with the Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation, have donated more than $1.5 million to Share the Warmth energy assistance funds.
