GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. -
On Saturday, White House High School students hosted a fundraiser at Authentic Coffee in Goodlettsville to raise money and awareness for the ongoing budget battle in Sumner County schools.
In August, the Board of Education voted to delay the start of the school year after an unsettled budget.
Planning and hosting Saturday's car show and fundraiser was part of a class project for the students.
All proceeds will be split among White House High School, White House Middle School, H.B. Williams Elementary School and Millersville Elementary School.
In addition to raising money, the students want to raise awareness of the ongoing budget issues.
"We put a Band-Aid over [the budget problem] so we're just raising awareness of the budget issues and try to rally school spirit for our schools again," White House High School senior Savanna Beckner told Nashville's News 2.
"We want to have fully funded schools," added student Dylan Brinn. "We want to have technology that can help our teachers teach better and more efficiently."
