NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

An eight-year-old was struck by a bullet after shots were fired into his home in north Nashville late Tuesday night.

Police said there was a fight outside the home in the 100 block of Tiger Circle off Hawkwood Lane, not far from Briley Parkway, around 10 p.m.

A 22-year-old man in the home told police someone threw something, believed to be a rock, at his house and as he and his mother went outside to see what happened, multiple shots were fired.

Police said an eight-year-old boy sleeping inside the home was hit by a bullet that entered the residence.

Officials said the bullet entered the child's lower back and exited through his abdomen.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.  He was last listed in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
