Metro police officer bitten by dog

A Metro police officer is recovering after he was bitten by a dog Monday afternoon in Antioch.

Police said the officer was assisting Nashville Fire officials on a suicide call at the Beechwood Terrace Apartments on Bell Road when a medium-sized mixed breed dog bit the officer in the face.

At the time, police said the officer was assisting in gaining entry into an apartment where a woman had taken an unknown amount of Xanax.

The officer was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was expected to be treated and released later on Monday.

The woman was transported to Southern Hills Medical Center. Her condition was unknown.

Metro Animal Control has taken custody of the dog.

The investigation is ongoing.
